track name | call me maybe (coyote kisses remix)

fourteen.may.twentytwelve

ok so everyone and their mother are sampling this song and i know its sooooo overplayed at every party that it is quickly reaching “levels” & “someone that i used to know” status, but the duo of coyote kisses do a killer job of turning this teenie bopper anthem into the perfect summer jam. by stripping the song down to just the vocals, coyote kisses create a sweet disco/synthy/pop jam. super easy to listen to and will no doubt completely change your mind on this song.

i know this song has made its rounds and is getting lots of air play but this remix is heavy and makes this song so much better, plus the video for this song is awesome

eighteen.april.twentytwelve

everybody knows this jam by now - and, i really didn’t think i could listen to it anymore, but i have to listen to almost anything that people mash with biggy.  he’s one of my favorites.  i was truly skeptical of this, but it’s surprisingly smooth.  let it kick in.

track name | r.i.p. [remix feat. drake]

four.april.twentytwelve

you say you got baggage, well i’m packed too…plus i got a sex pistol pointed right at you, bang.

ok so more from the uk invasion. however this is a little different. drake wrote and produced a song long ago titled, i’m ready for ya. written for a female vocalist, the drake version leaked and basically no one cared it was a guy singing because the song was awesome. now it seems they finally made it an actual track…girl and all. british star Rita Ora quietly signed with jay-z and roc nation back in 2009 and they’ve been working on her debut album since. r.i.p. will be the second single released off the album and no doubt it will get some play. the song has been revamped from drake’s version (introducing a verse from tinie tempah), but still offers a great party-rock sensation. add some heavy synth and a bumping bass…radio accessible. anyway i am already a fan of the song and i hope you all like it too…

‘and now days go by…’

the drums.  nostalgic pop.

they’ve rocked out as support band for florence + the machine as well as kings of leon and were named the ‘best hope for 2010’ by pitchfork in 2009.

i wanna be drunk when i wake up…on the right side of the wrong bed

ok so aLc recently posted a song featuring this kid and mentioned a little bit about him. well here’s a little more. hailing from the uk, this guy may be my new favorite artist. i’ve played through his album and it’s tough to find a song i don’t like. even more so…it’s tough not to keep listening to them over and over again. drunk is one of those songs that you hear right away and it just hits you. the lyrics, the riff and the drum beat all combine for a simple tune spreading a message i am all too familiar with. anyway, enough of my babbling…hit play

track name | don’t move

twentysix.march.twentyeleven

i dig this street beat, indie rock track.  the duo from ny were formerly known as charlie everywhere and they create their sound using mostly guitars and keyboards.  while the main post, don’t move, is my favorite song from their most recent ep [nightlife] - the soundcloud track, 16 years, is also a great tune.

when twenty two year old trevor powers decided to finally release all of his bottled up emotions, the year of hibernation was his way of doing it.  what appears to be a pretty mellow and dreamy album on the surface, turns into some pretty deep sh*t if you really pay attention to the lyrics.  when you first listen, the album itself has that same indie pop, reverb, washed out vibe that you think you’ve heard for the past year - but, powers definitely has a bit of a unique style about him.  i find that on some of his tracks, the arrangement - the way he makes the sounds fit together, it’s different…and impressive.  my two favorite standouts are seventeen and cannons.  it sounds especially big in a wide-open room or while you’re out on a walk.

play it loud and get weird.

gardening, not architecture is a completely fresh name in my repertoire.  i am completely mesmerized by this song and am somewhat disappointed that i couldn’t find anything like it on her bandcamp.  that being said, i was thoroughly impressed that this sound could come from someone who is so deeply rooted in the punk-pop scene.  her ability to create such a diverse sound on her albums is a testament to her years of experience and her creativity as an artist.  she’s been in and out of bands, worked on the vans warped tour, and on top of that, she’s the founder of the earn it yourself movement - a not-for-profit company in the spirit of the ‘do it yourself’ mantra.  earn it yourself promotes the virtues of creativity, honesty, cooperation, humility, resoluteness, and integrity using underground music and art as a medium - pretty rad.

ok mini, ill see your teeny bopper jam and wil raise you with this kap slap bootleg. i am sure everyone has heard the jessie j song “domino” about a million times in the past week on the radio, but unless you checked out kap slap’s spring break mix, you never heard it like this. by mixing in axwell’s “in my mind” kap slap takes this chart topper to a whole new level. for all you kiddies out on spring break, be sure to include this in your mix for your party tonight.

hey, i just met you…and this is crazy

so i know i’ll probably get judged real hard for this one, but this song is blowing up and damn is it catchy and full of energy. it’s a party starter for sure and you can bet your ass this song will be played multiple times in my car on the way down to carolina for spring break. carly rae jespen is a canadian idol and she released this song back in september. since that time it has been climbing charts all over the world and u.s. is getting hit now. consider it the guiltiest of pleasures…but don’t tell me your not dancing in your head as you listen
