if i can be an example of getting sober, i can be an example of starting over
on tuesday macklemore & ryan lewis released their latest release the heist and to say its amazing would be an understatement. unlike conventional rappers that only talk about stacks, women and other worthless crap, macklemore actually discusses real issues in his songs. weather its talking about shopping at the thrift shop (ok not so serious) or the crazy obsession we have all developed over jordans he connects to his listeners on so many levels, that many artists today just cant achieve. “starting over” is another one of those songs, yet this time is an even more real topic: relapse. unlike many celebrities that hide their drug problems, macklemore has always been very forward with it. in this song he talks about his relapse and his struggles to tell the people he cares about the most and letting them down. i love this entire album and as of right now is my album of the year. currently the album still sits at number 1 on itunes and for someone that has done this without any label backing this is a huge step for the duo from the pacific northwest.
