“come here for a minute, let me borrow your ear. i was just a little kid, i heard it perfectly clear. got a chip planted on my neck when i was six and ever since, i’ve been tripping off this music itch.”
styles of beyond. if you don’t know these old school megadef rhyme gods, you’re not a true hip-hop-o-phile. this l.a.-based crew first started making appearances on the wake up show in the early 90’s with other supreme lyricists such as eminem, jay-z, and the notorious b.i.g. they’ve released two LP’s and a mixtape and were also a part of a little project that you might remember as fort minor (with mike shinoda of linkin park)?
anyway, the thing that i love most about this group is their attention to rhyming detail. we’ve said it before, but hip-hop is in a rut. it seems like there are only a few true lyricists out there right now and i long for the days of old school hip-hop where going for 32 bars only got you a seat at the table and anything less than 48 got you laughed at.
that being said, you haaaave to dig the piano dance on this track - thanks to none other than your grandmother’s favorite modern day crooner, michael bublé. the hook is short, the flow is fresh and you are in for a swaggy little afternoon treat.
