ok so i’m gonna give you all a two-for-one in this post and also in my upcoming post in a few days. i’m a big fan of covers. i know some people would rather see more creativity from an artist by producing their own track, or prefer to leave the sanctity of the original untouched, and those are perfectly fine viewpoints to have. but i truly believe that a cover is a sign of respect and it proves that your track inspires above all. also, i love that moment when you hear an unknown track come on and you dig it right away, then all the sudden you find yourself singing along to the words only to realize it’s a cover. anyway…this cover of kesha’s radio-poppin’ hit is crazy. i don’t have another word for it…talk about flipping a track around and upside down. and in order to shorten an already long post, i’ll just link [here] one of my favorite bands covering a song and continuing to be one of the best group of musicians on the planet right meow…

justin vernon, my love.  i’m so happy to discover he’s been busy working on a side project, and especially one that reverts to his old roots with deyarmond edison.  this song moves away from the emo-melodramatic mood that most people like to hate him for regarding bon iver, and focuses more on his talent as a musician as a whole.  i’m tickled pink to hear him singing out of falsetto, because while i do love his falsetto, i love his raspy blues voice just as much.  and if you’re not familiar with deyarmond edison, check out my favorite track by them here : silent signs.

as far as indie-pop goes, this song is pretty much perfection.  nice little catchy electronic back drop, check.  wispy male vocals, check.  obscure-ish lyrics that make the song relatable to something in your life, check.  this song reminds me very much of the we are knights song i shared back in january, although that song was laced with hope and optimism, whereas this one definitely reflects a certain feeling of doubt.  anyway, enough of my psycho-babble bullshit. if you’re a fan of the indie-pop genre, hit play and enjoy.

fool’s gold and mr little jeans?  yes please.  i’m actually torn between which i like better, this version or the original.  fool’s gold definitely removes a bit of the ethereal quality of the original but replaces it with a catchy drum beat that works just as well.

it’s throwback thursday, y’all.  there are many songs that are like visual landscapes for me - either they’re imbedded in the song themselves, or they bring back old memories that are so vivid i feel like i’m reliving them.  this song by latyrx was one of my favorite songs when i moved to nyc in 2006 and i used to strut around town to it like no one’s business.  sometimes to this day when i walk my old streets i’ll put it on to reminisce.  it’s catchy and if you haven’t heard it before, i hope you enjoy.
